BACKGROUND

The Land for Life-Initiative was launched on May 8, 2018 by the Forum for Social Studies (FSS), implemented as a pilot project in Oromia Regional State. A workshop during the same month held that reached out to various stakeholders, including regional policy makers, implementing government offices, representatives of civil society organizations, the academia and the private sector operating in Oromia region, to exchange on the idea of fostering multi-actor dialogue and collaboration on land governance.

A series of Coffee Meeting was undertaken at the beginning with different stakeholders which have discussed on the problems and injustices of smallholder farmers that are resulting from weak land governance. Since then, a group of committed actors has emerged, jointly assessing the land governance context, reaching out to further actors and initiatives and co-creating an environment for multi-actor dialogue and collaboration. The aim is to increase information sharing, to strengthen synergies between programs and initiatives and to jointly address key land governance challenges.
